Over 200 Children from Shelters to Receive Health and Life Insurance

19 December, 2024

Children residing in shelters managed by the Catholic Church now have health and life insurance. The Nacional Vida Segura Foundation has issued 240 policies to nine shelters, fulfilling its mission to support the most vulnerable populations.

The commitment was formalized during a signing event held at the Archdiocese of Santa Cruz, with representatives from both the Foundation and the Episcopal Commission for Social Service Works. Attendees included José Luis Camacho, President of the Foundation; Julio César Caballero, Executive Director of the organization; Monsignor René Leigue; Mario Mazzoleni, head of the Commission; Nélida Gamual from San Lorenzo Shelter; and Karina Rocha from the Don Bosco Project.

“This insurance ensures that children have protection for their lives, which is vital for their development,” stated Camacho. “Previously, they were left vulnerable, unprotected against accidents or illnesses. Now, they can access consultations or emergency care wherever they may be.”

Monsignor Leigue added: “The support from the National Foundation for Secure Lives is invaluable; we all recognize the importance of health for achieving quality education and optimal living conditions.”

The health and life insurance covers total and permanent disability due to accidents. The shelters benefiting from this initiative include Casa de Acogida Nazaria, San Lorenzo Shelter, Fortaleza Center, Don Bosco Shelter, Francisca Casci Shelter, Mercado Aguado Shelter, Don Bosco Project, Santa Cruz Children’s Shelter, and the Mother María Training Center for Adolescent Mothers.
